Omapodi / Plain Sev


Now that summer hoildays have started, Kids might want something to snack often.. So here I am with a very simple omapodi recipe which can be easily with ingredients available at home. You dodnot need much ingredients for making this delicious snack. More over every house will be having besan, so no need to go hunting for ingredients.. 

 

Omapodi is a traditional south indian snack that can be prepared duing the diwali festival. The delicious gram flour snacks is so easy if you make the dough consistency right.. You can choose the size of the sev / omapodi as your need - super fine or medium fine.. Both way it is delicious !!

 

Kids would love it very much.. We can use this same sev for chaat recipes too...Today we will learn how to make omapodi following this easy steps...I will soon posting more traditional snacks recipe soon..So keep looking for it...

Preparation time : 15 mins
Cooking time : 15 mins
Makes - 1 or 11/2 cups
Cuisine - Indian

INGREDIENTS :

Gram flour / besan - 1 cup
Rice flour - 1/4 cup
Asafetida / Hing - 2 pinch
Ajwain / Omam - 1 tsp
Butter - 1 1/2 tsp
Coconut oil - 2 tsp
Salt as needed
Oil for frying

METHOD :

  • Mix gram flour, rice flour in a mixing bowl.
  • Add in salt, asafetida, butter, coconut oil and rub with your fingers so it resembles crumble.
  • Now take ajwain seeds in a blender, add in water and blend them..strain them...
  • Pour this water over the gram flour mixture and make into a dough.
  • Now take your sev press and drop the dough in it. Cover the press.
  • Heat oil for deep frying, Rotate the handle so you get fine threads...
  • Fry this in hot oil a min..When shh sound is stop drain them..
  • Press it with your hands so it breaks into small pieces.
  • Store it in air tight container...Enjoy..

PICTORIAL :

 Take your ingredients
 Take gram and rice flour in a bowl
 Salt
 Asafoetida
 Butter
 Coconut oil
Mix well
Using your fingers to rub them
Keep aside
 Now take ajwain in blender
 Add some water
 Blend them
 Strain them
 This is carom seed water
 Add that to the flour
 Form onto a dough
 Now take your sev press
 Put the dough inside this
 Heat oil for frying
 Rotate them you will get sev threads
 Fry in hot oil till crispy
 Drain them
 Done
Press it with your hands to break it
Now it's ready
Enjoy..
Serve...
