Biryani Brinjal Curry / Biryani Kathirikkai Recipe


When I looking for a perfect sidedish for biryani and this recipe is perfectly match for both veg and non - veg briyani recipes.. There are more version of brinjal gravy for biryani but this one is typical method of muslim style brinjal gravy or kathirikkai thokku which is served in muslim marriages and in resturants... 


I made this and served with my mutton briyani and with some simple onion raita, everyone loved it.. So friends do try this recipe as a sidedish for biryani for your guest or parties together, I am sure this became a super hit recipe...

INGREDIENTS :

Bay leaf - 1
Cumin seeds / Jeerakam - 1 tspn
Pepper - 1/2 tspn
Cinnamon sticks - 2 sticks
Onion - 2 (chopped into big pieces)
Tomato - 1 (chopped)
Green chillies - 2 nos
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tspn
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tspn
Chilli powder - 1 tspn
Coriander powder - 1 tbspn
Garam masala powder - 1 tspn
Tamarind pulp - 3 tbspn
Salt - as needed
Coriander leaves - few (chopped)
Mint leaves - few (chopped)
Coconut oil - 3 tbspn

METHOD :

  • Heat a pan with oil, add in whole garam masala and fry them for a min..
  • Add in pureed onion and saute well till raw smell leaves..
  • Add in ginger garlic paste, salt, spices powder and toss well.
  • Now add in chopped tomato and mix well. Cover and cook till they mushy..
  • Add in brinjal, chillies and water.. Add in tamarind pulp and mix well.
  • Cover it lid and cook till the gravy is done..
  • Add in coriander leaves and mint leaves..
  • Mix it well, and cook till the oil floates on the top..
  • Serve with your biryani..
  • Enjoy...


PICTORIAL :

Take all your ingredients
Take onion in a blender and puree it
Heat a pan with oil
Add in whole garam masala 
Add in onion puree
Toss it well
Sorry guys, I forget to add bay leaf
Toss till the raw smell leaves
Add in ginger garlic paste
Mix it well
Now it's done
Add in spices powder
Saute well till they combained
Add in tomatoes
Cover the lid and cook till they mushy
Now they done
Add in brinjal and chillies
Mix well, so that the masala coated well
Add some water
When they bring to boil
Add in tamarind pulp
Add in coriander and mint leaves
Cover it with lid
Now it's done, check for salt
Cook till oil floats on the top
Now it's done
Transfer them in serving bowl
Enjoy with biryani..
