Aval Kozhukattai / Poha Kozhukattai is always a favorite simple snacks to have in evening with a cup of coffee or tea.. It is very easy and quick recipe to prepare for snacks which is rich in iron and healthy benefits.. Aval Kozhukattai is soft in texture and it's just melts in mouth It can be accompanied with coconut chutney if required

INGREDIENTS :

Aval / Poha - 1 cup (I use Red aval)
Water - for soaking
Coconut - 2 cup (fresh, grated)
Salt - as needed

FOR TEMPERING :

Oil - 1 tspn
Mustard seed - 1 tspn
Urad dal - 1/2 tspn
Channa dal - 1 tspn
Green chilli - 2 (chopped finely)
Curry leaves - few
Asafoetida - a pinch

METHOD :

  • Take aval in a bowl, add some water and soak it for 3 to 4 hours..
  • Heat a pan with some oil, make the tempering items and keep aside.
  • Now the aval is soaked well, drain the water and rub them with your hands into coarsely powder..
  • Add in salt, tempering items and coconut and mix it well.
  • Shape them into ovals and steam it in idli maker for 10 to 15 mins..
  • Once it done remove them to a plate and serve with chutney..
  • Enjoy..


PICTORIAL :

Take aval in a bowl
Soak it for 4 hours
Keep aside
Take all your ingredients
Heat a pan with oil
Add in mustard and urad dal
Allow to crackle
Add in chilli and channa dal
Add in curry leaves
Toss it well for 2 mins
Add in asafoetida
Now it's done, keep aside
Now drain the water from the soaked aval
Add in salt
Add in tempering items
Mix it well
Add in lot of coconut
Mix it with your hands
Take a small portions in your hand
Shape them into ovals
Like this
Prepare like this  
Arrange them in prepared idli maker
Cover it and steam well till cook
Now it's done
Transfer them to a plate
Serve with chutney
