Maavilakku / Karthigai Maavilakku maavu Recipe

Maa vilakku ( Rice flour lamp( is made during the special occasions aadi velli, thai month, karthigai deepam etc.. Maa villaku is a special lamp made with gound rice flour and jaggery kneaded together as a dough placed on a banana leaf with a dent in a middle where we pour ghee, place the thiri and lit the lamp...

We also apply kukum on all 3 sides of maa vilakku and took it along when we visited the amman temple... But i decided to post the recipe here as I love maa vilakku but totally forget about it... I made maa villaku today, clicked it and i enjoy while clicking the pictures too.. Some one use fresh grounded rice flour but i used strought brought one..

You may soak the raw rice for 4 hours and strain it and make it into powdered and add jaggery and ghee to florm maa vilakku dough... That's also superb to have.. I remember those days when we as kids used to fight with my cousin for the big part of the lamp dough.. It give me such immense pleasure, loveble moments and satisfaction when i try out tradional recipes..
