Ulli Vada / Onion Vada


Ulli vada is my hubby's favorite one, when we are in kutrallam after finishing bath in old kutrallam falls my hubby like to have ulli vada and bajji...he enjoyed the climate and love to have it... Now kuttrallam season is started we make trip to kutrallam in last saturday with my whole family members...




The trip was so enjoyable and unforgettable one....It was little bit croud but kids enjoyed five falls.... so think to post this recipe in my blog,

Ulli vada is a popular tea time snacks sold in small tea shop, the taste is superb with a cup of tea or coffee is best for evening.... This simple easy snacks is made within 10 mins....so hope you must try this recipe  and comment about this...





Preparation time : 10 mins
Frying time : 5 mins

INGREDIENTS : 

Onion - 2 (big size)
Chilli powder - 1 tspn
Turmeric powder - 1 /2 tspn
Green chilli - 1 tspn (chopped)
Curry leaves - few
Gram flour - 3 tbspn
Rice flour - 2 tspn
Cumin seeds - 1/4 tspn
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Fennel seeds - 1/4 tspn
Salt - as needed
Oil - for frying + 2 tspn

METHOD :

  • Take onion and peel the skin...
  • Cut into vertical slices and add it to the mixing bowl...
  • Then add in green chillies, curry leaves, turmeric powder, chilli powder, cumin seeds...
  • Squeeze the onion along with the masalas and add in gram flour, rice flour and again sueeze with your hands.
  • Then add in warm oil and mix the mixture.
  • Then heat a pan with oil and when it reach the right hotness.
  • Take small amount of dough and make it a ball and drop it into the heat oil.
  • Repeat it for atleast 3 to 4 balls.
  • Keep the flame in medium and fry the vadas evenly in all sides..
  • Remove the fried ulli vadas in kitchen towel to drain excess oil..
  • The yummy spicy ulli vada is ready to serve with hot tea or coffee.



PICTORIAL :


Take onions
Peel the skin
Slice the onions 
Add to the bowl
Add in green chilli
Add in curry leaves
Add in turmeric powder
Add in salt
Add in chilli powder
A pinch of asafoetida
Add in cumin seeds
Now it's time to squeeze
Now it's done
Add in gram flour
Add in rice flour
Add in fennel seeds
Mix well
Add in warm oil and mix well
Now the dough is ready

Heat a pan with oil
Make it like a ball and drop it
Fry it evenly
Drain it in the tissue paper
Serve hot
