Amma's Tomato Rasam Recipe


Rasam is an essential part of every south indian meal, and is tomato rasam, a perfect recipe for you to enjoy the true flavour of homemade rasam form mom's hands... I like my mom rasam very much, tangy, and flavour of tomatoes... Me and my sister enjoyed my mom's rasam with chicken 65... It is best combo for lunch... 


The powder of toordhal, coriander seeds, Pepper corns, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, curry leaves make the rasam more flavourful one... Then the main thing in this rasam is adding the minced garlic which gives excallent aromatic smell to the rasam...

INGREDIENTS :

Red ripe tomatoes - 2 (chopped)
Tamarind extract - 3 tbspn (lemon size)
Rasam powder - 2 tbspn
Coriander leaves - few
Mustard - 1/2 tspn
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Dry red chilli - 4
Garlic - 10 to 12 (grinded coarse)
Salt - as needed

RASAM POWDER :

Toor dal - 1 tbspn
Pepper - 1 tbspn
Coriander seeds - 1 tspn
Cumin seeds - 1 tspn
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tspn
Curry leaves - few

METHOD :

  • First make rasam powder for that add toordal, pepper, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, curry leaves..
  • Grind them into coarse powder, now your rasam powder is ready..Keep aside..
  • Soak the tamarind in hot water and extract the juice and keep aside..
  • Chop the tomatoes and keep aside..
  • Heat a pan with oil add in mustard seeds allow to crakle..
  • Then add in Rasam powder, dry chilli and chopped tomatoes, toss it in the oil.
  • Now add in salt and tamarind extract and mix well.
  • Then add a pinch of asafoetida and mix continiously..
  • While mixing the rasam add in garlic and mix for 2 mins..
  • Now off the stove the rasam should not be boiled...
  • Atlast add in coriander leaves and serve hot...

Add to the blender
Add in curry leaves
Make them into powder
Now your rasam powder is ready
In the same blender grind garlic

Take your ingredients 
Heat a pan with oil
Add in mustard
Rasam powder
Dry chilli
Chopped tomatoes
Toss well
Some salt
Tamarind extract
Mix well
Add in asafoetida
Mix it continiously
Add some crushed garlic 
Mix well for 2 mins
Now the rasam is done
Serve hot
