Spicy Tomato Chutey / Thakkali Kara Chutney...


I love love love (mum mum mum...) this chutney with hot soft idlies and it is spicy, tangy and yummy while having along with idlies.. It is simple and easy to make with accompaniment with idli or dosa or appam or rava dosai or kara paniyaram.. With this chutney I can promise that you will eat more a couple of idlies or dosas.. 


Usually i prepare this chutney with rava dosai, and plated with coconut chutney, tomato chutney and coriander chutney.. Taste is awesome and this combo is my hubby's favourite breakfast too.. So I hope that you must try this recipe and let me know how it's turns out from you...


Preparation time :5 mins
Cooking time :10 mins
Serve - 3 to 4 
Recipe category - Sidedish for idli, dosa

INGREDIENTS :

Tomatoes - 3 (chopped)
Garlic - 6 cloves
Dry red chilli - 6 nos
Tamarind - small piece
Salt to taste

FOR TEMPER :

Gingelli oil - 1 tbspn
Mustard / urad dal - 1/2 tspn
Shallots / small onions - 2 chopped
Curry leaves - as needed

METHOD :

  • Heat oil in a pan add red chilli and garlic. fry this for 2 mins.
  • Take it out, and in the same oil add chopped tomatoes and cook till the tomato is mushy.
  • Now let this mixture cool down..  In blender add fried chilli, garlic, tamarind, salt and mushy tomato.
  • Make it into a fine paste. Tip this in to a bowl.
  • Now make tampering by heating oil, crackling mustard, urad dal, allow to crackle..
  • Add in chopped challots and curry leaves. fry till light brown..
  • Pour this over the chutney and mix well.
  • Serve it with dosa or idli....

PICTORIAL :


Take ur ingredients
Heat the pan with oil
Add in red chilli
Some garlic
Take it out
In the same pan add tomato
And cooked till mushy.
Inblender add in fried chilli and garlic
Tamarind
Then salt
Mushy tomato
 
 Make it a smooth paste and transfer it to a bowl
 Heat a pan with oil
 Add in mustard and urad dal, 
 When it crackle add in shallots and curry leaves
 Fry till golden
 Now pour over the chutney
 Now it's done
 Enjoy..
