Ragi Idiyappam




Idiyappam / string hopper is a break fast items popular in tamil nadu, kerala and sri lanka . Usually it made with a rice flour and they are white in colour. Idiyappam, a steam cooked meal is easy to digest and hence it is prepared as a dinner also. Recently idiyappam with ragi flour has became popular among dieticiants and they are recommend it to many.


So we can see readymade dried ragi idiappam also in stores. It is very convenient for a quick meal. Making fresh idiyappam is also very easy and tasty. So try this simple and healthy recipe at home. and let me comment how it is......

INGREDIENTS :

Ragi flour - 1 1/2 cup
Water - 2 cup (warm)
Curd - 1/2 cup
Salt - as needed
Coconut oil - 2 tbspn

Method :

  • Take ragi flour in a bowl, add in salt, curd, and coconut oil and pour little by little over the flour and mix to get a soft chapati dough stage.
  • And roll it in to ball, and let it rest for 10 mins.
  • Take some portion of dough and stuff inside the idiyappam press (idiyappam nazhi).
  • Squeeze the strings in continuous fasion. And place inside idly cooker or idiyappam steamer let it steam for 10 mins. 
  • After 10 mins open it and take out and serve it immediately or store in a airtight container.
  • Likewise steam all the idiyappams. The popular side dish are sheredded coconut with sugar but i choose coconut chutney for this idiyappam.

PICTORIAL :


Take your ingredients
Take flour in a bowl
Add in curd
Add in salt
Add in coconut oil 
Sprinkle some warm water
Knead it with your hands
Make it a soft dough
Take your idiyappam press
Take some dough and fillit into the press
Squeeze the strings in continuous fasion. 
Place  inside idly cooker or idiyappam steamer
Allow to stream it for 10 mins 
After 10 mins open it 
Take out once it cooked 
Serve immediately
I serve it with coconut chutney
Enjoy it.....
