Ven Pongal


Ven pongal ia a very popular and famous breakfast of tamilnadu...It is very simp-le and easy recipe which can be done in a jiffy.. It greats with coconut chutney, sambar and Medhu vada... even though that the pongal falls on the 15 th of this month, many will be preparing both sankkarai pongal / sweet pongal and ven pongal... 


So here i with the ven pongal recipe... I posted sambar recipe in my blog which goes well with this pongal.. It is my families favourite breakfast recipe...The delicious Ven Pongal is yummy, the main thing is in the pongal is moong dal it is rich in iron and potassium. It is very healthy for our body. So i hope that you must try this recipe and let me know how it's turns out from you...

INGREDIENTS:

Raw rice - 1 cup
Ghee - 2 tsbpn
Coconut oil - 3 tspn
Mustard seeds - 1 tspn
Curry leaves - as requried
Ginger chopped - 1 tspn
Moong dal (siru paruppu) - 1/2 cup
Salt - as required.
Coconut - 1/2 cup (fresh grated)
Water - 3 1/2 cup

FOR POWDER:

Cumin seeds - 1 spn
Pepper corn - 1 spn

METHOD:

  • In a bowl take rice and dal, mix and wash them..keep aside..
  • In a blender add in pepper and cumin seeds and pulse it one times..
  • Sure it should be coarse powder.. keep aside..
  • Heat the pressure cooker with ghee and coconut oil.
  • Add mustard seeds, allow to crackle..
  • Add powder of Cumin seeds and pepper seeds then ginger and curry leaves, now toss it well.
  • Now add in rice and dal mixture and toss along with the tempered items...
  • Now add water, salt, fresh coconut and whistle it for 3 times.
  • Open the cooker after it subsides...
  • Mix well, Now the ven pongal is ready
  • I serve it with sambar.. 
  • Enjoy...



PICTORIAL :


Add ghee
Add Oil
Mustard seed
Pepper and cumin seed
Take rice, dal , curry leaves and ginger
Add in crushed pepper and cumin seeds 
Chopped ginger
Fry with curry leaves
Add in rice and moong dal, toss it well in the ghee
Add coconut
Then some salt
Some amount of water
Close it now and whistle it for 3 times
Now the ven pongal is ready
 Serve hot
 It's have it
