Dry Red Chilli Coconut Chutney (South Indian)


Dry Red Chilli Coconut Chutney is a popular south indian chutney perfect with idli, dosa and uttappams... It is commonly prepared for breakfast in south indian tiffin recipes... Here the fresh grated coconut is grinded with red chilli, garlic, tamarind, roasted gram dal and salt, into  a smooth paste and they are temper with shallots / small onions which gives a smooky flavour to the chutney... 


This chutney is packed with goodness of coconut, a pinch of red chilli and a dash of gingelly oil, which gives extra flavour to the chutney... So I hope that you must this recipe and let me know it's turns out from you...

INGREDIENTS:

TO TEMPER :

Gingelly oil - 2 tspn
Shallots / Small onion - 3 (chopped)
Mustard seeds - 1 tspn
Urad dal -1/2 tspn
Curry leaves - few

FOR GRINDING:

Red chilli - 10
Fresh coconut -1/2 cup (grated)
Garlic - 1 (clove)
Tamarind - a small piece
Roasted bengal gram - 2 tspn
Salt -  as needed

METHOD :


  • Take all your ingredients ready..
  • Take a blender add in dry chilli, garlic, tamarind, salt, grind them into a coarse powder..
  • Add in fresh coconut and little water, make it a smooth paste..Keep aside.
  • Heat a pan with gingelly oil, mustard and urad dal, allow to crackle..
  • Add in chopped shallots and curry leaves, fry till golden brown..
  • Now add in grinded chutney and some water..
  • When the chutney started bubbles at the sides of the pan..
  • Switch off the flame, transfer them to a bowl..
  • Serve with idli, dosa..
  • Enjoy..


PICTORIAL:


Take all your ingredients 
In a blender take dry chilli
Add in salt, tamarind, garlic, roasted dal
 Pulse it lightly
 Add in fresh coconut
 Add some water
 Make it a smooth paste
 Heat a pan with oil
 Add in mustard and urad dal
 Allow to crackle
 Add in shallots and curry leaves
 Fry them till golden brown
 Now it's done
 Add in grinded paste
 Add some water
 Mix it well
 Now it bubbles at the sides of the apn
  Switch off the flame
Transfer them to a bowl
Serve and enjoy..
